Note: This is a guest essay post by Denise Barry – who I’m thrilled to have as a regular guest blogger.
I spent my whole life distracting myself…
in Want and in Need, placing “things” on the shelf.
“I’m better than you (because I have to be).
I’ll prove it to you, just wait and you’ll see!”
I’d stumble and fall and lose sight of what’s real.
Such a painful game which held little appeal.
One day I was up, the next vastly low.
So lost in a maze, didn’t know where to go.
Ever so slowly I opened my eyes…
and for the first time heard the sound of my cries.
I’d never known Fear as I did on that day,
for how could I live and go on in this way?
The chains felt so heavy, the pain absolute.
Yet where to begin with an ache so acute?
I didn’t know then, but my journey began,
the moment I made healing a part of my plan.
Just becoming aware was the beginning for me
and the deeper I delved, the more I could see.
Love starts with the Self – can’t get it outside.
Let it all out, let it all shine!
Step into the rain, feel it seep through your skin.
Don’t stop it from happening, you can’t sink if you swim.
Take off your shoes, wrap the wind round your hair.
Look at the moon and the stars way up there.
Don’t just move on and try to survive;
laugh at a joke, at yourself, be alive!
There’s such hope for us if we just look to see….
the beauty that IS - and all we can be!
My world has grown big, but there’s more yet to come.
I’m not stopping now – I’ll never be done!
